Loss Distribution in an Electric Vehicle Traction Chain using a Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter with Integrated Battery

This paper attempts to determine the sources of loss of a cascaded H-bridge inverter with integrated batteries (CHB-IB) when used to supply an electric vehicle traction machine. An Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR) is performed to model the sources of losses and to simulate the behavior of thedifferent system elements. Waveforms illustrate critical operating points, including loss models for each element. Simulation results are presented as a function of the torque and speed of the machine to identify trends. An analysis of these results is proposed, and the primary source of losses is highlighted.
