Thermal energy harvesting with magnetocalorics

Cutting greenhouse emissions, and improving the global energy efficiency have been the main goals of researches in the field of caloric materials for more than two decades now (1). So far, the research of new solid state cooling devices, using…

A Multimaterial Topology Optimization considering the PM Nonlinearity

Density-based topology optimization methodologies in magnetostatics interpolate either the magnetic permeability μ or the magnetic reluctivity ν to define intermediate materials and compute the problem sensitivities. These choices may lack physical…

Energy Not Exchanged: A Metric to Quantify Energy Resilience in Smart Grids

In high-impact, low-probability (HILP) events, resilience is defined as the ability of a system to return to a normal operating state after a failure. The generalization of information technologies and distributed renewable production is…

Powered two-wheelers right-hand curve negotiation study using segmentation and data mining approaches

Understanding driver-vehicle interactions remains a challenge, particularly in the case of cornering. This is particularly the case for powered two-wheeler vehicle (PTWs) users, perhaps because PTW drivers play a greater role in controlling the…

Mesoscopic Monitoring of Human Skin Explants Viscoelastic Properties

The investigation of the mechanical properties of skin is of great interest for monitoring physiological and pathological changes in the cutaneous barrier function for dermatological and cosmetic issues. Skin constitutes a complex tissue because of…

Hard ferromagnets as a new perspective on materials for thermomagnetic power generation cycles

We consider the ways in which magnetically hard materials can be used as the working materials in thermomagnetic power generation (TMG) cycles in order to expand the area in the magnetisation vs. applied field (M - H) plane available for energy…
