Single Prediction Horizon Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control for Single-Phase MMCs
Publié le - 2023 6th International Conference on Renewable Energy for Developing Countries (REDEC)
This paper proposes a single horizon finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) algorithm for controlling single-phase Modular Multilevel Converters. These converters are widely utilized in high-voltage DC transmission systems and renewable energy systems. The main goal of this research is to assess and compare the effectiveness of the proposed FCS-MPC approach with a classic method. The classic method includes PI controllers, for controlling the load and circulating currents, then a sorting algorithm for balancing the capacitor voltages, then a modulation technique. On the other hand, the FCS-MPC combine all these algorithm in one computationally efficient controller. The performance of the different methods is evaluated through software simulations in terms of number of commutations per second, grid current waveform quality, and the variance of the capacitor voltages. Finally, conclusion are drawn.
